Ebony Cookbook: A Date with a Dish, Freda DeKnight: Perfectly charming comprehensive cookbook written by Freda DeKnight and published with the title, “A Date with a Dish” in 1948. In 1962 the cookbook was published again with the title “The Ebony Cookbook.” The Ebony Cookbook was revised and reprinted in 1973. This copy is from a later printing of that edition. Preface by Gertrude Blair. Hard cover WITHOUT dust jacket. 384 pages. Cover has a bit of shelf wear. Pages and binding are perfect. Clearly, this cookbook was never used.
Freda DeKnight collected a thousand wonderful recipes over 20 years, all from what she called then “Negro sources.” Starring the “Little Brown Chef,” DeKnight’s name for herself. Great gift!
