Description
Fancy Pantry: Elegant Edibles, Helen Witty, 1986, First Edition, First Printing: The full subtitle of this cookbook is Well Preserved, Prettily Pickled, Candied, Brandied, Potted, Bottled, Sun-dried and Otherwise Put-By Elegant Recipes. Published by Workman Publishing, New York, in 1986. Hard cover with dust jacket. 351 pages. Dust jacket has issues. Book is in excellent vintage condition. At some point, this cookbook was wet. So, some of the pages are mildly rippled–but not stained.
This is another of my favorite cookbooks. This one is a favorite because literally every recipe is for an elegant, sophisticated luxury. There’s not a single recipe for an everyday dish. Helen Witty, in very clear, clever prose, provides recipes for appetizers, zesty relishes, preserves, jams, marmalades, breads, crisps, condiments, desserts and sauces, cordials, nectars and syrups. If you like to READ cookbooks, not just cook from them, this is a must-read! (But if you are dieting, don’t read it when you are hungry.)
